ASAPP Submits Comments on Key Payments Regulatory Reforms
ASAPP submitted comments on the Banks Act exemption and the Authorisation Framework in June 2026. These submissions form part of ASAPP’s ongoing work to ensure that Alternative Payment Providers are represented in regulatory developments affecting access, participation, safeguarding, prefunded settlement and future payment activity authorisation.
ASAPP Participates in National Financial Inclusion Strategy Workstreams
ASAPP members are participating in National Treasury’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy technical working groups, including workstreams focused on access to financial services, SMME participation, product and service design, financial capability, consumer protection and payment infrastructure modernisation.

ASAPP Continues Work on Interchange and Cost of Payments
ASAPP has continued its work on wholesale payment costs and interchange-related issues affecting alternative payment providers, fintech participants and merchants. ASAPP has submitted a cost-related paper to the SARB and continues to advance industry engagement on payment costs, access and the broader competitiveness of South Africa’s payments ecosystem
ASAPP Joins the SME Finance Forum
ASAPP has become a member of the SME Finance Forum, strengthening its connection to a global network focused on SME finance, digital financial services and inclusive economic participation. This membership supports ASAPP’s broader objective of ensuring that Alternative Payment Providers contribute meaningfully to financial inclusion, merchant access and the future development of South Africa’s payments ecosystem.
